Apr 3    Grapes of Wrath Theatre Tour 4.3.16


As part of The Big Read in the St. Croix Valley, St. Croix Festival Theatre is bringing a scene from production of "The Grapes of Wrath," adapted by Frank Galati from the novel by John Steinbeck, to Hastings. Festival Theatre's actors will perform the first scene of the play depicting the Joad family's hopefulness for the journey from the family farm in Oklahoma to California in search of work.

The free public performance will take place at the Hastings Art Center, 216 4th St. E. Co-hosted by Pleasant Hill Library and Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council.

Apr 14    Empowering Veterans to Achieve a Higher Quality of Life
The table talk series for the Hastings Military and Veteran Services, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, Empowering Veterans to Achieve a Higher Quality of Life, Personal Financial Readiness, will be conducted at Tilden Community Center, 310 River Street, Hastings, MN, on April 14, 2016. A pleasant, free light meal will be served at 6:00 PM, with the program starting at 6:30 PM. From start to finish, this should only take 90 minutes, unless further continuance is desired. Topics to be focused on include Financial Banking Services; Establishing and maintenance of Various Accounts; Saving for College; Retirement Planning; Stretching/Saving Money, military financial resources and so much more.

Apr 22    Bird Banding
Have you ever wondered what bird banding is all about?  Bird Banding records can help us learn how long birds live, where they travel, when and where they migrate and many other interesting facts.  Carpenter Nature Center has been banding birds for over 30 years.  On the fourth Friday of the month bird banding is open to the public. 
There is no program fee, but donations of Bird Seed and Suet are greatly appreciated.

Apr 22    Military and Veteran Services Community Event 4/22/16


Brooklyn Park Veterans Center and Dakota County Veterans Services will be outreaching to our military, veterans, families and the community at the Hastings City Hall, 101 Fourth Street East on 22 April, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This is a national, state, county and community effort to reach out to veterans, families and survivors by connecting them with services, benefits, services and entitlements that they have earned. This will assist in understanding what is available. This will also assist and help the veteran and family to identify needs by obtaining services, which offers individual, family, group guidance ,counseling and readjustment to civilian life for a host of issues. Services also include Suicide Prevention Awareness, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), military sexual trauma, bereavement and so much more. Veterans and families have earned these benefits through their service and all are provided at no cost.  Programs have been available for years and some may have not taken advantage of them, where there is a need, conceivably every corner of Minnesota, county and the community.

Apr 22    Irish Whiskey Tasting


The Dakota County Historical Society's LeDuc Historic Estate will host their first Irish Whiskey Tasting. Attendees will taste five specially chosen whiskeys from the Fair Isle and indulge in delicious food created by the LeDuc Estate staff. During the tasting, visitors will learn about distillation methods, stories of each distillery you are sampling from and general Irish history. Live music will be provided throughout the night.
