Nov 3    The Remember Project
THE REMEMBER PROJECT

Allina Health, The Lutheran Home Campus and The Onion Grille in partnership with The St. Croix Valley Foundation will launch The Remember Project in Hastings and Prescott this fall.
The Remember Project is a pilot program intended to stimulate a community conversation around dementia and the most well-known form of memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease. The project takes a unique approach to building awareness, sharing information, and inviting authentic community conversations.  Hastings and Prescott will host three special performance events - each starting with a different short play performed by a professional, traveling cast.  Audience members will watch the play and participate in a facilitated conversation.  The idea stems from a book of three one-act plays titled The MemoryCare Plays (compiled and edited by Dr. Margaret A. Noel) and from the recognition that the arts are a powerful tool for inviting deep and meaningful conversation.
“The Remember Project is for you,” said Angie Pilgrim, Grants and Programs Officer with the Saint Croix Valley Foundation, “for your family and your community.  We believe that, together, our St. Croix Valley communities can address the isolation and fear associated with dementia through this very unique experience using theater and conversation to learn and make decisions about the future.”  Bre DeCorsey, Community Education Manager at The GRACE Unit at Regina Hospital in Hastings adds “It is so important to start conversations, to hear from others in the community on what their experience with dementia has been. Together, we can increase understanding, and foster support.”

The Hastings plays will be performed in the Sibley Room, at The Onion Grille. There will be a special pre-order lunch served that day:
Chicken Salad- $12.99
Bacon Cheeseburger- $11.99
Turkey Club- $10.99

Nov 19    Rain Gardens
Jessie Eckroad from the Carpenter Nature Center will be presenting on rain gardens in your home or business.  This program is free to the public at the Tilden Community Center and will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 19.  Call 651-437-4359 to RSVP.

“Rain Gardens” presented by Ms. Eckroad will go over the functions of rain gardens and how they help our community. Personal rain gardens help curb the negative effects of urban sprawl. The use of native plants promotes native populations, and reduces erosion and run-off by filtering sediments.

Before-and-after pictures will show the utilization of rain gardens to promote eco-friendly urban development. Using landscaping of native plants to promote native insects and animals will give your garden an environmental boost, while being the best looking garden on the block.

“Rain Gardens” is a part of the Vermillion River Water Quality Program — an educational series on the health of Hastings Area rivers, lakes, and wetlands. This series was made possible by a grant from the Vermillion River Watershed Organizations and partnerships with Dakota County Libraries, Hastings Community Education, Blue Thumb and Metro Blooms.
