Sep 6 - Sep 7    Civil War Weekend at the LeDuc Historic Estate
Program Schedule
Civil War Weekend returns to the LeDuc Historic Estate on September 6 & 7, 2014, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The theme of this year's event is "1864 - The Death Rattle of the Confederacy." Join William LeDuc as he follows General Sherman on his march to the sea. Come cast your vote in the 1864 Presidential election. Features include encampments of Union & Confederate soldiers, speakers, demonstrations, period music, and special Civil War themed tours of the LeDuc house. Each morning there will be a flag-raising ceremony by the 3rd Minnesota Infantry In addition there will be samples of bread baked over an open fire served with freshly churned butter and homemade hardtack. The Historical Re-enactment Society will present a fashion show and tea in the garden.

Sep 21    Butch Thompson at the LeDuc Historic Estate
Butch Thopson, world renowned jazz pianist & clarinetist returns for 2 concerts at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 3:30 & 6:30 p.m. on September 21, 2014. There will be a high tea between the two concerts. Reservations for these events are required. Call 651-437-7055 to make reservations early. These concerts fill quickly. Cost of the concert is $20 for the general public, but $18 for members of Dakota County Historical Society. The tea is a separate event and must be booked separately. Sep 27    Bauer Gait 5k Walk/Run
Bauer Gait is a 5K run/walk event that takes you on a scenic trail along the Mississippi River. The event begins at Lake Rebecca Park, takes you along several loops, bringing you past the Hastings Lock & Dam where you will have unbelievable views of both Lake Rebecca and the mighty Mississippi River. You will feel like you are walking between two natural waterways! You will turnaround at the halfway point only to capture the fall colors and visit with family and friends. This is a 5K flat course for both runners and walkers so anyone can enjoy, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced walker/runner. This is a RAIN or SHINE event so dress appropriate to the weather conditions. Kids ages 15 and under are FREE. We DO have a family rate! The finish line will greet you with a bag of goodies, which will include snacks, a beverage, coupons, and other goodies. This event is also in partnership with United Way of Hastings. United Way of Hastings has been helping those in need for 50 years. Every dollar raised in the community stays right here to impact education, health, and financial stability. Fall Raptor Release: Join us to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Raptor Center

Carpenter Nature Center is pleased to host the fall raptor release which is presented by the 3M Foundation in partnership with The Raptor Center of the University of Minnesota and CNC. Visitors will enjoy watching 4-6 wild birds of prey take to the air after being rehabilitated by The Raptor Center's veterinarians, staff and volunteers. Arrive early for either the 11:30 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. programs as you will need time to get your vehicle parked and walk to the release site. The day is full of fun with orchard hay wagon tours, educational raptor displays, kids’ activities and more. This is a FREE event. All of Minnesota's Civil War soldiers spent time at Fort Snelling, as did Confederate prisoners and Dakota Indian families.  Learn their stories from 1860's letters, diaries and newspaper accounts.  This program is presented by Minnesota historian Stephen Osman.
